US Navy Project Handclasp

The US Navy has delivered 1.4 million Kids Against Hunger meals to Haiti this week. Mission Lifeline is serving as the ground agent for these meals to get to the organizations and children who desperately need them. This food is a blessing for our kids and thousands of other children in Haiti. How amazing that KAH, the US military, and other organizations can come together for a common goal: helping Haiti's poorest.
A great deal of work from many people in the US has gone into this project (everything from packaging the food to transportation to phone calls and contacting the right people). Here in Haiti Adam has seen to a lot of preparations and this week has worked 17 and 18 hour days to oversee this huge undertaking. Monday and Tuesday he received pallets of food flown to the port from the ship by helicopter. They were transported in huge cargo nets under the helicopters. The food was loaded into the back of freight trucks and hauled 45 minutes away to a holding warehouse. This took 10 trucks, 20+ workers, and 29 trips! Everything ran smoothly and the food is now safely stored, ready to be distributed. It was a neat experience to work with the military and have the opportunity to be part of helping Haiti in a great way.
Yesterday we toured the ship that brought in the food. The USNS COMFORT is a hospital ship which has people from different branches of the military and many civilian volunteers. People in Haiti who were in need of surgery would be screened by doctors on shore, then transported to the ship for free surgery. The next day they would be sent back to shore for follow-up care. Cleft pallets were corrected, hernias were treated, cataracts were cleared, and on and on... Nearly everyone who received treatment would have basically had no other option if it weren't for this opportunity.
On our ride back to the shore, some patients traveled in the boat with us. Seeing them made the whole experience come together. We were all overwhelmed and so impressed by the compassion and action of our fellow Americans. They are truly doing a great thing and making a difference here in Haiti.*find out more information about USNS Comfort's mission: Contiuing Promise '09 at http://www.southcom.mil/appssc/factfiles.php?id=103

Deana and family, Haley and I enjoyed looking at the pictures of the birthday and the Comfort ship' The baby that was 3 months old Haley found hard to believe--I hope she made it. We are so proud of you and your family . Who would ever have thought the little girl I watched grow into such a beautiful woman would end up in a place like that. You have truly been blessed with husband, boys and having God lead you in this direction. Haley was impressed with Matthew taking blood pressure and helping his Dad. We continue to keep you in our prayers. Keep up the good works. Love Angelyn
